I purchased the box version of Elements and Premier from Amazon UK and am loath to try to install them as i will be breaking the seal and probably wont be able to return them which i am assuming i am gount to have to do as it looks like there will be no remedy in the near future from either Apple or Adobe. I haveupdated OS Monterey to 12.1 hoping that i can install Elements 2022 but now looking at the latest posts on this forum there is no fix for M1 and OS Monterey. That's one of those creeping disasters that are discussed in business school courses after companies collapse or become a shell of their former selves (can you spell Lotus 1-2-3?). The longer customers use Affinity or Acorn the greater the opportunity cost to Adobe in lost future repurchases. Second why did the label Mac Software that is not compiled fo Apple Silicon (i.e., M1) 2022? They should have identified the problem months ago. First why is Adobe's public face one of surprise. There's enough code involved that providing the solution is nontrivial even when the source of the problem is identified. Assuming PSE is doing something that matters wrongly, then the problem is how to get it to do what is necessary that works and doesn't create other glitches. The problem likely is that PSE is trying to do something that Adobe thinks is important (perhaps validating some element of PSE's registration or something of that ilk). Adobe doesn't say, but if they are any good at all at quality control, they already know where the bug is. That potentially is a clear to the part of the OS that PSE is in conflict with. The issue is pretty much the same whether your Mac is Intel or M1 EXCEPT PSE 2022 will corrupt Rosetta 2 and lead to an eventual spontaneous restart. Solving that riddle without sewing the seeds of some future disaster may take awhile-how long awhile is anyone's guess without more detail regarding what the software architects are up against.Ĭan someone with an M1 Mac and PSE 202 installed please report on what happens when PSE 2022 is launched with OS 12.1 installed? Apparently, whatever PSE is trying to do at that point has some importance attached to it so, Adobe may have to puzzle some to find an alternative way to do what they think must be done. If my inference is correct, then Adobe now has a powerful clue pointing to exactly what the PSE startup bug is. If PSE 2022 will not execute at all on an M1 Mac with OS 12.1, that would mean that Apple has modified OS code and Rosetta code to prevent whatever PSE's startup was doint that it should not be doing (a single app should never be able to bring down the entire OS). My surmise all along is that something in PSE's startup routines does something to the working copy of the OS that 1) prevents future starups of the app if it is quit without a restart of the Mac, and 2) regardless of whethe PSE remains open or is quit, installs an error in Rosetta 2 on an M1 Mac that will subsequently lead to a spontaneous restart. I'd appreciate it if someone with an M1 Mac can confirm that PSE 2022 won't startup at all in 12.1. I have received a refund and no longer have any version of PSE installed. I saw a post this morning that says that PSE 2022 (presumably also 2021) won't start up at all with Monterey 12.1. Although Adobe may have legally covered themselves by putting OS 10 and 11 in the system requirements, to sell a product advertised for the year 2021 or 2022 that is incompatible with Mac OS of the same year is misleading in terms of the trades description and fit for purpose legislations?Īny ideas about the timeline in the fix would be really helpful as I don't want to pursue the chargeback route with credit company if this will be fixed soon. However, both Adobe and the vendor I purchased the software from are refusing refund, even though the software have a 12 Months Warranty.ĭo I have a case for chargeback from my credit card company? It's not too much to expect PSE 2021 to working on 2021 Mac OS. They then uploaded the 2022 version to my mac through remote access but it suffers from the same issue as PSE 2021. Adobe won't give me a refund but upgraded my licence to PSE 2022 free of charge. My PSE 2021 purchased 3 months ago is not working properly on my new Mac following the update to Monterey. Hi there, anyone have any idea about the timeline for the fix.

"The owner really didn't have to do anything except buy the beer. "Back in the 80s and 90s, it was a happening place," Marcin says. She spent the next 11 years struggling to keep it afloat. In 2006, Marcin was hired as a bartender and then quickly became bar manager. She began to explore her identity as a woman, and the people she found in the bar supported her through her gender transition. Like Stroud, Marcin was coming off a divorce. It was in the years after the shooting that Deanna Marcin first came to Backstreet. One man was so terrified of losing his job that he went to work the following week with a bullet in his back, trying to act like nothing had happened. Some of the those were injured were outed in the ensuring media coverage when they were identified as shooting victims. Much of Roanoke's LGBT community was still closeted at the time of the shooting. Some time after that I went to Backstreet and the bartender and I talked a bit. "I was all by myself and went up on this raised platform they called 'the meat rack.' I was so scared that I left by 11. After the divorce, she started working through her feelings with a therapist, and in early 1994 she visited Salem Avenue. By the early 90s, her marriage was on the rocks. Sue Stroud moved with her family to Roanoke in 1984. A gay scene formed around the restaurant's bar, likely sparked by a gay activist who bought most of Macado's kitschy decor for its owner.Įven after their peak, those spots remained important for those seeking to explore their identity in a supportive environment. Additionally, however, there was Macado's, a family-friendly restaurant with quirky decor-think 3 Stooges mannequins flying a plane hung from the ceiling-that spawned a regional franchise. The late 70s marked the high point, and by the mid-80s the scene had dwindled to the Park, Backstreet, and the Last Straw. That's not to say there wasn't pushback and hostility: Barbara Maberry, who grew up in Roanoke, remembers people in passing cars shooting BBs at those standing in line during the '80s. The Park quickly made an impression, and for the next few decades, lines at its door often stretched around the building into the parking lot. By the time the Park opened in 78, the Star City was home to six gay bars. LGBTQ individuals began to move into Old Southwest, a historic district near downtown, making it Roanoke's first gayborhood. Its second gay bar opened in 1973, the first gay discotheque in 1975. Ripples emanating from the Stonewall uprising of 1969 created an efflorescence of gay culture in Roanoke. "It's really a small percentage of the LGBT community." "These are largely white spaces, largely male-dominated, largely people with means," Rosenthal says. The same social restrictions pressing against women and minorities applied to the world of gay bars, too. Yet the gay bars served only a small section of the regional LGBTQ community. For that reason, Trade Winds-and nearby city parks, which became cruising sites-also attracted a steady flow of people from large rural swaths of surrounding Southwest Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Roanoke's location at a gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains makes it an urban center for a significant area of eastern Appalachia: People travel here for retail shopping, medical needs, public services, and culture. For three decades, the bar served as an LGBTQ destination, appearing in gay travel guidebooks that functioned like a rosetta stone for people on the road. Roanoke's gay bar history extends at least back to 1953, when Trade Winds opened. Partly out of respect to the closeted era these bars represent, MUNCHIES is not identifying either by name. The owner of the Front Row does not wish to be associated with his bar's past, while the Park's former owner was amicable but did not follow up on an interview request. MUNCHIES contacted both the owner of the Front Row and the former, longtime owner of the Park. Then, that stretch of Salem Ave was home to a string of rock clubs, gay bars, and more than a few purveyors of black market wares. When the Park opened in 1978 and Backstreet in 1982, their section of Salem Avenue, which marks the point where downtown Roanoke gives way to industrial buildings and the railroad, was considered edgy and maybe even a little dangerous. However, the non-profit Roanoke Pride continues to operate the Park as a dance club, event venue and community center. The dance club remained under the same ownership until 2013, when it was sold off. The Park opened in 1978, when disco was still hot in Roanoke. A variety of factors, from social media and hookup apps to a rapid shift in societal attitudes to become more accepting to the LGBTQ community, has caused a sharp decline in gay bars across the country, and Backstreet was no exception.Īnother long-running gay nightspot located three blocks up Salem Avenue also has evolved. In truth, Backstreet had long since ceased to be a gay bar. Unlike the "human" world, the mermaid world is a matriarchy, so mermen do not have the same power that human men do in the human world. However, there were some cases where merman hatchlings remained with family and some where they are raised by foster parents. At some point, Nerissa's ancestors moved to the Northern Hemisphere and became members of the Northern Pod. The island returned then to the ownership of the Mako Pod after the war had been won. After this, mermen pods were disbanded, and from then on, all mermen were to be abandoned by their mothers to be raised on land in human foster families with the use of the Legs Spell. Since only a member of that merman's bloodline could activate the chamber, no other merman had been able to use it since then, and it became a lost ruin.Įventually, mermaids from each of the five oceans defeated the Merman Pod by drawing on the powers of the oceans and locked the trident away in the Trident Cave with one of the kinder mermen's help. The merman who built the chamber fell in love with a mermaid and decided not to activate it, and instead found ways to invoke peace and stop the war once and for all. During this time, an unnamed merman (Zac's ancestor) built a chamber on the island with the intention of siphoning the island's Moon Pool's Moon Water, thus the life of every mermaid of the Mako Pod. Įons later, around the 11th Century A.C., an army of mermen carried the Trident in battle and behaved in a destructive manner and seized the Mako Island from the Mako Pod. The Chinese mermaid used the Jiao Long Bracelet to undo the spell on her lover and return him to his human form. Another pod heard of this and punished the mermaid and her pod by casting a spell to turn the land boy into a Water Dragon, capable of permanently stripping a merperson of their magic and transforming them into a human being, and of killing merpeople. Only mermaids who graduate Mermaid School in their respective pods, given a Moon Ring, and are initiated in their pod can join their pod in the sea and attend the ceremony.Įons later, during the Shang Dynasty, a Chinese Mermaid of the Eastern Pod fell in love with a land boy. Mermaids also started carving the Moon Rings out of blue moonstones found in the caves where Moon Pools are located and use them for healing what potions cannot, enhance the natural world for camouflage, grant them human form, and amplify their inherent magical powers.īecause of the entire merkind race being granted their magical abilities and the capacity of amplifying them hundreds of times, the mermaids across the seas honor the Full Moon in a ceremony since then due to being magically gifted with extraordinary powers by Moon Pools since ancient times. In ancient times, the first Moon Pool located at the heart of Mako Island became the magical source of hundreds of Southern mermaids and mermen who took refuge and came to live on its reef. Today he owns seven vineyards with friends, and his life is stitched into the fabric of the region. “I displayed my enthusiasm for the product, let’s put it that way,” says Chris. “He drank so much that the locals adopted him,” says his son, Alex. Initially there was all this resistance, but once they realised I was not some outside speculator hoping to make a killing, but rather more Chablisien than the Chablisiens, it was fine.” You had to pay your social security as an agricultural labourer. “I had to tick every box to be treated as a local. Bureaucracy, I am not the first person to note, is a French word. It took him eight years to satisfy the criteria of the local authorities so that he could plant his vines. (Chris and Jacqueline divorced in 1995, and Emma and Alex have long since acquired new siblings on both sides.)Ĭhris bought his first vineyard in 1991. And even though the family moved back to England when Alex was a toddler, Chris and the kids kept coming back to Chablis year after year. During their seven years in France, they had two children, Emma, born in 1990, and Alex, two years later. Back then, he was a young English barrister recently relocated to Paris with his then wife, Jacqueline, also a lawyer. He first came to Chablis in 1987, “to pick grapes and carry a hod up and down a hill”, as he puts it, sounding very much like a man who would like nothing more than to be doing exactly that right now. I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest. But Chris’s real passions are for game fishing, music and wine-making – and wine-drinking. As well as French, Watson speaks German, Spanish, Italian, and his Russian is good enough to decode complicated legal documents. And, in its way, a very modern one: the grape skins are organic and the gin is certified carbon-neutral.Ĭhris Watson, 65, is a high-flying City lawyer, a partner in a large international law firm, with a focus on communications law. More specifically, he loves rural Burgundy, in the eastern-central part of the country, and especially Chablis, the small Burgundian town famous for its white wine.īut the Watsons are in France, en famille, to toast a new venture: the launch of a gin, the brainchild of Alex Watson, Emma’s younger brother, who until recently was an executive in the drinks industry. “But I am a mega-nerd.” Chris Watson loves France, and the French. “I prefer to say I’m passionate,” Chris replies, taking the measure of a glass of local red. “He’s a mega-nerd,” says Emma over a long lunch last September, with a bias towards regional classics, at Bistrot des Grands Crus in Chablis. To call Emma Watson’s father an oenophile would be undercooking it. Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter. The crunchy topping, and the fact that it’s also a sourdough make this bread very flavorful. On its own, this bread is already very tasty. It also has that slight tang of sourdough that makes it extra flavorful. It stands better at being stuffed than a soft-crumb bread would. But it’s not dense like a bagel or pretzel. My sourdough version has a more robust crumb and is slightly chewy. Yeast, and an addition of sugar, will likely help achieve this. Yeast (dry active, instant, or fresh) can be used in place of the sourdough starter.īesides the crunchy exterior, Dutch Crunch Bread is described by many as having a soft interior crumb that’s slightly sweet. Most recipes don’t call for sourdough starter. The paste is applied just prior to baking, and as the bread bakes and expands, the paste crackles and becomes crispy. Salt and sugar may be included to add flavor. The crunchy topping on the bread is achieved by applying a paste made essentially with rice flour, water, yeast, and oil. A driving theme that reoccurs in "Into the Rushes" is used here to represent the Death Eaters and the havoc that they inflict in this sixth film. The use of Hooper's choral theme throughout the score is a reference to Dumbledore and the events that would entail, regarding his character and the climax of the film. "Opening": After a brief quotage of "Hedwig's Theme", in which Hooper lifts one note by semi-tone, elements of light choir are introduced. The beginning of the film has to have at least a hint of 'Hedwig's Theme'."
